Emacs find-file-in-project
WebOct 29, 2024 · I'm trying to explore emacs for my day-to-day tasks and would like to understand the best way to achieve the above. The official GNU Emacs documentation talks about EDE mode, but that required each subfolder to be manually assigned as a project (i.e. the .ede files will exist in all folders in the directory). Is there a better way to do this? WebJul 5, 2024 · 5. You can always use the Emacs function: M-x find-grep-dired. Emacs will ask you the directory and the string (or regexp) you want to search. This will open a dired *Find* buffer where you can, for instance: press the 'm' key to select files. press the 'Q' key to perform a search/replace over all the selected files.

The most useful thing those other tools do is to automatically exclude files and directories that you wouldn't want to search, and rgrep does that too.
